JONESPORT AND DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – James Merrill Alley passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012. He was the son of Charles Edward and Rita Tibbetts Alley.
Until age 29 he made his living at various things, such as clam digger, fisherman, truck driver, mechanic and carpenter. At age 31 he was employed by United Aircraft, East Hartford, Conn., for 13 years. At the young age of 44 he took medical retirement.
James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary Lindsey Alley; sister, Viola A. Faulkingham of Addison; and sister-in-law, Pauline Whiting of Hingham, Mass. He is fondly remembered by his six children and their spouses, Donald Handy and Judy of Addison, Gary Alley and Sharon of Addison, Gail Fickett and David of Harrington, Rita Kelley of Ormond Beach, Fla., James Alley Jr. and Linda of Bucksport and Charles Alley and Elizabeth of Bedford, Va.; and stepchildren, Donna Fay Alley and Ordman of Beals, Daniel Handy and companion, Jane, of Beals, Raymond Look and Jane of St. Cloud, Fla., and Wayne Look and Carmen of Addison. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Donna Eldridge, Todd Alley, Scott Alley, David Fickett, Angela Workman, James Kelley, Justin Kelley, Kimberly Alley and Kelli Alley; several great-grandchildren; and three nephews, Richard Faulkingham of Sullivan, Richard Whiting of Massachusetts and Robert Whiting of Mexico. He will be remembered by special friends, John Washington and Joseph Carter of Florida; and special cousin, Bobbie Farnsworth of Addison. He will be missed by us all. James was predeceased by an infant sister, Leola Rose; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Whiting and Leeman Faulkingham.
The service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Indian River Grange Hall, Addison.
