HAMPDEN – Susan Cabot Putnam, 71, passed away peacefully Oct. 7, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. Susan was born July 30, 1941, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Joseph E. and Marjorie (Snyder) Cabot.
Susan was born in Canada before moving to the U.S. where she pursued a career in education. She attended Emmanuel College, Harvard and the University of Maine where combined she attained two master’s degrees and a certificate of advanced study. Susan was a passionate educator in public schools, with a particular fondness for literacy. She enjoyed daily walks in all seasons, all outdoor activities, working in her flower beds, taking trips with her mother, spending time with her “joy luck club,” and not only gave, but received great joy by being “MeSue” to Kelly, Benjamin and Joseph. Sue was proud of her Canadian heritage and her dual citizenship.
Susan is survived by her husband, Eugene L. Putnam; children, Heather Putnam and husband, Gary Thorpe, and their children, Catherine and Joseph, Dean Putnam and wife, Beth, and their children, Kelly and Benjamin, and Heidi Hayes and husband, Michael; mother, Marjorie Cabot, as well as many family and friends too numerous to mention.
Family and friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where memorial service celebrating Sue’s life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
