Roger V. Miles Sr.

SCARBOROUGH – Roger V. Miles Sr., 84, formerly of Old Town, went to be with the Lord, Oct. 6, 2012, after residing at the Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough. He was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Old Town, son of Arthur Ivan and Freida (Gould) Miles.

After high school Roger served his country in the U.S. Army as part of the U.S. Constabulary Force in Germany after World War II. Roger earned his bachelor’s degree in education, and was a longtime teacher and coach at Bangor High School and Mattanawcook Academy, Lincoln. In addition to teaching and coaching, Roger’s great passion was the game of golf.

Roger was predeceased by his first wife, M. June Miles; and later by his second wife, Sally Miles. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Miles; son, Roger V. Miles Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Christina Mellen. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Bradeen; son, Michael Miles; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Aaron, Michael, Jesse, Rebecca and Sarah; several great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur L. Miles; sister, Marilyn Grindel; several nieces and nephews. The family extends a huge thank you to the staff at Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough, for their excellent and compassionate care of Roger.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at North Deering Alliance Church, 1301 Washington Ave., Portland. A private interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset.
