Vivian S. Mason

NEWPORT – Vivian S. Mason, 94, died Oct. 5, 2012, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born July 16, 1918, in Charleston, daughter of Fred and Hazel (Whalen) Mitchell.

Vivian was very active in local affairs and was involved with H.G. Libby National Relief Corps, Sebasticook Ladies Club, Rebekah’s, Grange, and various horse and pony clubs. She loved playing cards and listening to her LP’s.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Mason; and two sisters, Verna Mitchell and Virginia Hibbard. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Peter C. Mason of Newport and Fredric Sigrist and his wife, Ruth, of Londonderry, N.H.; and grandsons, Peter A. Mason of Philadelphia, Richard Sigrist of Concord, N.H., Joel Sigrist of Weare, N.H., and Russell Sigrist of Massachusetts. The family would like to thank the people who cared for Vivian at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. Vivian loved animals and requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be sent to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
