CARIBOU – Iva Sparks, 98, passed away Oct. 5, 2012, at Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center with family and friends by her side. She was born June 6, 1914, daughter of the late Frank and Sophia (Michaud) Michaud.
Iva was married to Wasson Sparks April 27, 1950, and he predeceased her Jan. 12, 1987. Iva enjoyed crocheting and gardening, but her greatest joy was caring for the sick. She was employed at Cary Memorial Hospital for 11 years as a certified nurse’s aide. Iva was a member of Caribou Assembly of God Church and also attended Washburn Pentecostal Church.
Mrs. Sparks is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Patricia and Mayland Hartsgrove of Presque Isle and Arlene and Galen Rockwell of Caribou; and a stepson, Winnie Sparks of Brunswick, N.J. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Henry Hartsgrove, Kathleen Osborne, Sandra Hartsgrove, Jennifer and husband, Michael Quinlan, and Karen and husband, Joshua Ouellette; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, William, Heather, Travis, Alaina, Claire and Colby; two sisters, Anna Quist of Auburn and Leona Petroski of Enfield, Conn.; and two brothers, Arthur and his wife, Joan, of Caribou and Leonard of Hermon. Mrs. Sparks was predeceased by four brothers, William, George, Guy and Alfred Michaud; one sister, Alice Legasse; a stepson, the Rev. Lloyd Sparks; and a stepdaughter, Dorothy Dickinson.
Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of services 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
