Sun Journal HS Football Top 10: Leavitt-Mt. Blue matchup will affect rankings

1. Cheverus (5-0)

Stags could extend state’s top winning streak to 30 with win Saturday over Bonny Eagle.

2. Thornton (5-0)

Trojans shredded Scarborough but need to take care of business against Windham before next week’s showdown with Cheverus.

3. Lawrence (5-0)

Bulldogs demonstrated their depth last week when the second-stringers did more damage in one quarter than Skowhegan starters did in the entire game.

4. Leavitt (5-0)

Hornets defense is getting stingier by the week, but they haven’t faced an offense as diverse as Mt. Blue’s this season.

5. Mt. Blue (5-0)

Cougars have been looking forward to rematch with Leavitt for a long time. But they will be a little shorthanded.

6. Messalonskee (5-0)

Eagles haven’t missed a beat since coach’s resignation, but they also haven’t faced a team as good as Brunswick, either.

7. Cony (4-1)

Statement win over Brunswick followed by an even tougher test this week against Messalonskee.

8. Scarborough (4-1)

Statement game against Thornton started out promisingly, but Red Storm just couldn’t hang with explosive Trojans.

9. Portland (4-1)

Bulldogs getting a handle on coach Jim Hartman’s wing-T and getting more dangerous.

10. Wells (4-1)

Western B appears up for grabs. Warriors can show how good their grip is with an impressive performance at Mountain Valley Friday.
