DENNYSVILLE – Rebecca Weston Hobart, 91, died peacefully Oct. 3, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 20, 1921, in Edmunds, the daughter of Ralph C. and Edith A. (MacRae) Hobart.
The family moved to Dennysville in 1927. Rebecca graduated from Dennysville High School in 1939, Washington State Normal School in 1941, and Gorham Teachers College in 1950. She was an elementary teacher in Lubec schools from 1941 to 1981. She had been a member of Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church since 1936. After her retirement from teaching Rebecca was a volunteer in community services as treasurer of the Congregational church, librarian at Lincoln Memorial Library, secretary of Dennys River Historical Society and editor of the D.R.H.S. quarterly newsletter. She was also engaged in genealogical research. She also had a kind devotion and love for her kitty cats.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by several dear cousins, friends and former pupils. She is survived by many cousins, including special ones, Beryl Hobart, Richard and Priscilla Hobart, Lucy Rae and Alton Bailey, Beverlie Beers-Richardson and Maxine Enright; and a host of friends, particularly former neighbors, Harry and Judy Lingley and their daughters, Rebecca and Sarah. During the many years Rebecca lived alone after the 1976 death of her mother, she greatly appreciated the many forms of help she had from thoughtful cousins and friends.
Visiting hours will be held 1 p.m. until time of funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Congregational Church of Dennysville and Edmunds conducted by her friends, Pastors Ronald and Colin Windhorst.
