MORRILL, Maine — A 911 call from a woman worried about her friend led to the arrest early Wednesday morning of a local man charged with domestic violence assault.

Shannon Ames, 39, of Morrill allegedly assaulted his wife and took her phone away on Tuesday night, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The woman alerted one of her friends to the domestic situation via the Internet, he said, but when police officials responded to Ames’ home, he had left.

The woman told police that the couple had argued because he came home intoxicated, and he pushed her against a car and grabbed her shoulders and wrists, leaving bruises, Trafton said.

Officers put out an all-points bulletin for Ames, and he was picked up in Bremen a few hours later by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, according to the chief deputy.
