WATERVILLE, Maine — A fire that damaged a four-unit Western Avenue apartment building Tuesday afternoon was accidental, officials said.
Crews responded to the building, which houses seven tenants, around 4 p.m, Waterville Fire Capt. Rodney Alderman said.
Alderman said Ken MacMaster of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Waterville Fire Lt. John Gromek were the primary investigators, and they were able to determine the fire started in a second-floor apartment.
That unit suffered heavy smoke and water damage, and Alderman said the tenant’s belongings were destroyed. The tenant was not home at the time of the fire.
Crews from Oakland, Waterville and Winslow responded to the fire, which drew a collaborated effort of 35 firefighters from those communities, Alderman said. No firefighters or tenants were injured in the fire.
