Calling all zombies to Fright at the Fort

PROSPECT, Maine — The Friends of Fort Knox are ramping up for the annual Halloween event, Fright at the Fort, and are seeking additional volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to shuffle through the dark passageways of the fort as terrifying zombies during the Halloween events. Volunteers unable to muster the appropriate ghoulish spirit may help by serving as group tour guides, makeup artists or security helpers.

Fright at the Fort has attracted more than 10,000 visitors in the past, and event organizers hope to top that number this year. Fright at the Fort will be held 5:30-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 and 26-27.

The Friends of Fort Knox use revenue generated from the event in preservation projects for the state historic site.

This marks the 13th year of Fright at the Fort and it will be celebrated with a fireworks display at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. The display will be visible from the Bucksport waterfront. The fireworks will be sponsored by the Friends of Fort Knox and coincide with the Bucksport Chamber of Commerce annual Ghostport activities. Additional sponsors of the fireworks are the Atlas fireworks company and WKIT radio, which will provide a musical simulcast during the fireworks display.

To volunteer, contact the Friends of Fort Knox at 469-6553 or email fofk1@aol.com. For event information, visit fortknox.maineguide.com.
