Business organizes free pet wellness checkups at Animal Refuge League fundraiser

PORTLAND, Maine — Putney Inc., a pet pharmaceutical company, has organized a group of local veterinarians to provide free wellness checkups for dogs participating in the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland’s annual fundraiser Paws in the Park, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in Payson Park. As one of the many vendor booths at the event, it will emphasize the importance of regular veterinary visits.

Local veterinarians who will donate their time to provide the free examinations are:

• Dr. Doug Andrews of Falmouth Veterinary Hospital in Falmouth

• Dr. Alden Chadbourne, Brackett Street Veterinary Hospital, Portland

• Dr. Sara Leven, Casco Bay Veterinary Hospital, Portland

This is the first time that free pet wellness checkups will be part of the Paws in the Park event, now in its 15th year.

The fundraiser also will include Cool Canine contests with celebrity judges, police dog and agility training demonstrations, raffles, vendors, food and music by the Kosmik Zombies.
