Friday’s college roundup: Endicott 2, UNE 0

BEVERLY, Mass. — Senior Vanessa Caruccio broke a scoreless tie with a goal two minutes into the second half, and Endicott College tacked on a late score on its way to a 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference women’s soccer victory over the University of New England in rainy conditions Friday evening at Endicott Stadium.

The victory gets the Gulls over the .500 mark at 5-4-1, while evening their conference ledger at 1-1-1. The Nor’easters suffered their fourth consecutive setback to drop to 3-8 overall, 1-2 in CCC matches.

After a scoreless first frame, Caruccio notched her third tally of the season with 2:18 elapsed in the second period. First-year Paige Marinelli completed the scoring with just four ticks on the clock, breaking in on the left side and rifling a high shot just inside the near post to finish off the play set-up by senior Nicole Fournier .

Sophomore Katie Donnelly made three stops to notch her second shutout of the season for Endicott, which outshot the visitors, 14-6.

Junior goalkeeper Samantha Guyette had four saves in her first collegiate start for Big Blue.
