TUCSON, Ariz. – Staff Sgt. Daniel H. “Buddy” Blake Jr., retired, 82, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Corner Stone Hospital, Tucson, Ariz., after a lengthy illness. He was born May 18, 1930, in Albion, the son of Daniel Blake Sr. and Verna (Perkins) Blake.
He graduated from Besse High School in 1949 and attended Higgins Classical Institute. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, 101st Air Calvary Division, served at several bases in the U.S. and volunteered for five tours of duty in Vietnam, for a total of three years during that war as an Army medic. Retiring to Tucson, Ariz., he worked as a medic at a county correctional institute for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ester Hardman Blake; a stepson, Larry Hardman; and stepgrandson, Lance Hardman, all of Tucson, Ariz. He also leaves a brother, David Blake and his wife, Terry, of Winthrop; a sister, Betty Bradstreet and her husband, Seth, of Newport; several nieces, a nephew; and a maternal aunt, Alice Perkins of Unity.
Private services will be held at a later date in Tucson, Ariz.
