BANGOR, Maine — Two men who reportedly escaped from the Charleston Correctional Facility in July and spent three days on the lam were indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury on escape charges.

Randall H. Moulton, 20, of Bangor and Phillip C. Gardiner, 25, of Belfast were indicted on one count each of escape. Gardiner also was indicted on charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking.

They walked out of the minimum security facility, which has no perimeter fence, on July 8, Judy Plummer, a spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Corrections, said on July 10.

The duo was captured July 11 on Lakeshore Landing in Glenburn, the town-owned public beach, boat landing and water recreation area on Pushaw Lake, according to a previously published report.

Moulton was serving a sentence for burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer when he walked away from the Charleston facility, according to Plummer. He began his sentence on June 7 and was scheduled to be released in September 2013.

Gardiner had been incarcerated for burglary, robbery and criminal threatening since November 2009, Plummer said in July. He was scheduled to be released in November 2014.
