Pickup truck driver injured in crash with Brunswick school bus

BRUNSWICK, Maine — One person was injured Wednesday afternoon when a Brunswick School Department bus collided with a pickup truck owned by Maine Natural Gas Corp.

According to Brunswick Lt. Todd Ridlon, the driver of the pickup truck, 41-year-old Jason Bowie of Durham, was taken to Mid Coast Hospital with minor injuries. None of the students on the bus were injured, nor was the bus driver, 69-year-old Eugene Gagne of Brunswick.

The crash at the intersection of McKeen Street and Baribeau Drive was reported at about 3:25 p.m. The bus was occupied by students from the nearby Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School, who were en route to an athletic event. Ridlon said a preliminary investigation showed the pickup truck had the right-of-way through the intersection when the school bus collided with it. No charges have been filed against either driver.

The school department sent a second bus to the crash scene and took the students back to the elementary school, which in turn notified their parents.
