CUMBERLAND, Maine — Officials say a harness racer with more than 7,500 career victories remains hospitalized after falling onto the track at the Cumberland Fairgrounds.

Mike Timmons, president of the Cumberland County Fair, said it appeared that 65-year-old Leigh Fitch of Sebago suffered a medical condition before falling out of his seat and onto the track Monday evening.

Fitch was taken to Maine Medical Center where he was listed Tuesday morning in serious condition.

Fitch is a veteran driver who’s well known on the Maine harness-racing circuit. He notched his 7,500th career victory in late 2009 at Scarborough Downs.
