RANDOLPH, Maine — Police are searching for a suspect who broke into a Randolph man’s home and assaulted him Saturday night, according to police.
The suspect entered the home of Richard Sleeper, 66, around 11:15 p.m. and demanded money, according to Capt. Dan Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
When the suspect demanded the cash, Sleeper refused to comply, and the burglar responded by assaulting him, according to Davies.
Sleeper eventually gave in and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. The burglar subsequently fled on foot.
Gardiner police, Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies and state police officials searched the area with no success, Davies said. Sleeper suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
The case remains under investigation, and the suspect’s whereabouts and identity are unknown, Davies said.
“The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with other law enforcement entities in the area, is working diligently to solve this crime,” Davies said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office at 623-3614.
