JONESPORT – Maxine E. Stewart, 77, of Jonesport passed away Sept. 20, 2012 at her home. Maxine was born April 29, 1935, in Jonesport, the daughter of Winifred E. Wright and Sarah J. (Tracy) Wright.

She grew up in Jonesport where she met and married Donald J. Stewart Sr. of the U.S. Navy. They were married for 54 years until Don passed away Nov. 8, 2009. Together they owned and operated Stewarts Texaco Garage for many years and Stewart’s Grocery until they retired. Maxine was one of the original founding members of the Jonesport Ambulance Department where she served the community for many years as a volunteer EMT. She was also a tax assessor for the Town of Jonesport for several years. She spent her retirement years enjoying camping with her friends, Dennis and Sharon Alley, geneology with Rosalie Carver and spending time with her family and friends at the Takeout. She was happiest surrounded by her great-grandchildren and her special great nephew Zachary Allen.

Maxine is survived by her children, Donald J. Stewart Jr., Elizabeth A. Alley and Kelly J. Stewart; grandchildren, Donald J. Stewart III, Samantha J. Smith, Sabrina M. Merchant, Anson J. Alley, Bronson H. Alley, Christopher E. Peaden, Jordan S. Peaden and Darrin A. Peaden; great-grandchildren, Taylor Stewart, Aiden Stewart, Aiden Derderian, Joshua Stewart, Jocelyn Smith, Nathan Alley, Brenna Alley and Kadence Alley; her siblings, Laura Chipman and her husband, Ronald, and their children, Ralph Pineo and Jan Wolford, Mary Simmons and her husband, Leo, and their children, Noreen Baba and Norma Rolfe, Ennis Wright and his wife, Marjorie, and their daughter, Brenda Mitchell, Edward Wright and his wife, Belinda and their son, Elwin Wright, and Ivan Wright; as well as several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Rosalie Carver and Clifford Norton III. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Don; brother, Harold Wright; sister, Irene Wright; niece, Nancy Eastman; and a special lady and friend, Ruth Kelley. The “table” of friends at the Takeout has slowly diminished over the years and with each passing member the “table” in Heaven has grown. Maxine, your family and friends take comfort that you are with your husband, Don and your friends, Cal Carver, Shirley Merritt, Cabby and Ruth Kelley and Romie Alley once again.

A viewing will be held 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Machias.
