OAKLAND, Maine — Messalonskee High School football coach Wes Littlefield resigned Thursday after an incident at practice Wednesday allegedly involving one of his players, according to an online report by the Waterville Morning Sentinel.

Athletic director Tom Hill could not be reached for comment late Friday afternoon.

Littlefield had been the coach at Messalonskee since 2003 with a career record of 43-40.

This year’s team is undefeated at 3-0 and will play Oxford Hills of South Paris Friday night.

Members of the current coaching staff reportedly will handle the head coach’s duties until an interim coach is hired.
