Rena M. Tardy

NEWPORT – Rena M. Tardy, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sept. 20, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 28, 1926, in Newport, a daughter of Raymond and Myrtle (Ware) Emerson Sr. On Aug. 25, 1946, she married Raymond K. Tardy. They were happily married for 59 years.

Rena graduated from Newport High School, class of 1943. She spent most of her life doing what she enjoyed most, caring for her family, and doing church work which included teaching Sunday school for more than 30 years. She also loved visiting and serving others. She was a member of High Street Congregational Church, Newport; attended Calvary Baptist Church, Newport; and currently attended Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, where she was a member of the Wednesday Ladies Bible Study.

She is survived by a son, James and wife, Robin, of LaGrange; two daughters, Debra Tardy of Bangor and Linda and husband, Donald Arey, of Brewer; a grandson, Edward and wife, Carol Arey; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, Oct. 22, 2005; her son, Kenneth, Oct. 8, 2008; her grandson, Sean Arey, Feb. 28, 2001; and five siblings.

Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, with Pastors Roger Davis and George Finnemore officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
