Marion Hogan

HOULTON – Marion Hogan, 93, passed away Sept. 19, 2012, in Houlton. She was born in Debec, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Henry and Susan (Graham) McGann.
Mrs. Hogan was a member of St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church, the Catholic Women’s Council and belonged to R.S.V.P. for 15 years. She will be remembered by many for her wonderful cooking skills. People started enjoying the fruits of her labor years ago when she and her husband ran the Heywood Cafe and later Hogan’s Diner. She started her own cooking business, at home baking breads and sweets to sell, and cooked and sold “Marion’s donuts” at the C & G for $0.35 a half dozen. For nine years she was employed at St. Mary’s Convent, where she cooked for the nuns. Mrs. Hogan also worked for several years at Elm Tree Diner, then owned by Milo Eagers. Among her other jobs she also worked at Gardner’s Nursing Home. She loved to bowl and won several trophies during her years as a member of the leagues. She belonged to a Canasta Club and enjoyed entertaining people in her home. Since moving to Ricker Plaza she had enjoyed playing “Hand and Foot” with her good friend, Lois. Mrs. Hogan lived on Hogan Street for 52 years before moving to Ricker Plaza.
Marion is survived by seven children; her sons, Aloysius and his wife, Jean, of Vanceboro, Joseph and his wife, Patricia, James and his wife, Julie, both of Hodgdon, and Thomas and his wife, Cathryn, of Rochester, N.H.; her daughters, Mary Newhouse of Houlton, Carmel Watson and her husband, Carl, of Smyrna and Veronica Chapman and her husband, Rick, of Veazie; nine grandchildren, Michael Hogan of Revere, Mass., Timothy Hogan of Rochester, N.H., Jessica Hogan of Virginia, Cara, Nicholas and Suzanne Hogan of Rochester, N.H., Damian Watson of Texas, Shannon McDonald of New Hampshire and Victoria Chapman of Veazie; 11 great-grandchildren, Caitlan and Isaac Hogan of New Hampshire, Aidan and Xavier Hogan of Revere, Mass., Jordan DeMerchant of Bangor, Elijah, Isaiah, Tobias and Owen McDonald of Somersworth, N.H., Addison and Cole Watson of Texas; a sister, Dorothy Gammal of Worcester, Mass.; several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cyril; brothers, Vincent McGann of Ormocto, New Brunswick, and Murray McGann of Woodstock, New Brunswick; and favorite son-in-law, Ronnie Newhouse.
Friends may call 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be held noon with Father David Raymond, celebrant.
