CAPE ELIZABETH – Susan G. Hancock, 59, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, surrounded by family at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1952, in Waltham, Mass., daughter of Richard and Edna (McAleer) Hancock. At age 9, her mom passed away. Shortly after, her father married Marion (Teddy) Black and the two of them continued to raise her.
Susan was proud to serve as a licensed clinical social worker, caring for children and families throughout Maine. She was a quilter, a reader, loved to laugh, and adored spending time with friends and family.
During her final five years, she lived with her only daughter, Julie Merriam and son-in-law, Aaron, and spent countless hours with her four grandchildren, Sarah, Carter, Parker and Oliver. She loved her siblings and enjoyed spending time with each of them – whether in person or on the phone. She would want to send her love to her sister, Pat Oliver; and brothers, Donny Hancock, Richie Patterson and Bob Hancock. Today she joins her deceased family members, Teddy Hancock, Richard Hancock, Dicky Hancock, Jeanine Coyne, Uncle Jon and Aunt Diane. She also joins her dear friend, Coleen Smith.
An intimate service of family and Susan’s close friends will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Kettle Cove, Cape Elizabeth. Arrangements are under the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 981 Forest Ave., Portland. To sign Susan’s guestbook, please visit www.advantageportland.com.
