NEWPORT – Sally J. Millett, 73, died unexpectedly Sept. 8, 2012, at her home after a period of ill health. She was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Newport, daughter of William H. and Vornie E (Bragdon) Bird Sr.
She attended Newport High School. Sally was always a hard worker. She worked at Dexter Shoe as a hand sewer for 35 years. Sally was an avid Beano player, and didn’t like to miss an opportunity to be with her friends and play Beano. She also liked to bowl and at one time was know as the “Alley Queen.”
Sally was predeceased by her friend and companion, Elton “Posey” Nason, Nov. 28, 2005. Some of Sally’s favorite times were riding with “Posey” in their Model A Ford. Sally was also predeceased by her parents; son, Andrew Flye; granddaughter, Jennifer Flye; sister, Betty Erskine; brother, William “Billy” Bird II; and aunt, Pauline Jude. She is survived by her five children, Tony Flye of Augusta, Judy Perry of Clinton, Michael Flye of Texas, Hugh Flye of Cape Cod, Mass., and Rhonda McPherson of Oakland; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Lee Godsoe; aunt, Kathleen “Jody” Leavitt; brother-in-law, Richard Erskin; sister-in-law, Elaine Bird; 10 grandchildren, Erik, Aaron, Jessica, Heidi, Danine, Melissa, Amanda, Jaclyn, Colby and William; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
