JAY, Maine — A local woman was arrested Friday night after police said she was selling marijuana at her house on Church Street, which is within 1,000 feet of the Church Street Playground.

The park is in drug-free safe zone, Jay Detective Richard Caton IV said Monday.

Cindy Mitchell, 53, was arrested on a charge of aggravated trafficking in Schedule Z drugs, he said.

There has been an investigation that concluded with Mitchell’s arrest, Caton said.

Caton, assisted by Officers Nicholas Gulliver and Mike Mejia, seized more than 6 ounces of marijuana that was broken up into individual baggies, he said.

They also seized drug paraphernalia, including scales and about $2,900 in cash.

Mitchell was released from the Franklin County jail in Farmington on Saturday on $3,000 unsecured bail.

She is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Oct. 26.
