Police charge two women with underage drinking during traffic stop

Posted Sept. 10, 2012, at 10:52 a.m.

SACO, Maine — A broken brake light led to two York County women earning underage drinking charges during a Saturday traffic stop, according to police.

Chantelle Jarrett, 19, of Biddeford and Shauna Lessard, 20, of Saco were passengers in a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old woman when they were pulled over, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said.

While the driver was not intoxicated, according to Holland, police smelled alcohol coming from both Lessard and Jarrett.

That led police to charge the duo with possession of alcohol by a minor, Holland said. They were not arrested.
