STOCKTON SPRINGS – Robert D. Bradford, 84, son of Raymond and Irene (O’Driscoll) Bradford, passed away peacefully Sept. 3, 2012, with family by his side. He was born Oct. 30, 1927, in McKeesport, Pa.
He graduated from McKeesport Boys Vocational School, in 1945, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1945-1952, with service in China and Korea. Bob attained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., in 1957, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, in 1987. Bob was a research physicist for 11 years, and was a teacher for 25 years in Ohio; at Center Drive School, Orrington, and Bucksport High School; and in Mississippi and Bermuda. Most recently he was a grocery bagger at the Belfast Hannaford supermarket. At 83 he retired. An avid Scouter and a leader of Troop No. 235 of Stockton Springs, 1972-2012, he helped many Scouts to Eagle rank, including grandson, Jim. He was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Silver Beaver Award and Waldo District Award of Merit. He was involved in Sandy Point Congregational Church and Sunday school, and crafted unique, wooden cars and trucks for children in Waldo County and elsewhere.
He’s survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Sara; son, Mike and wife, Regina, of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Laura and husband, John, and grandchildren, Mariama, Devon and Jared, of North Falmouth, Mass.; son, Bob and wife, Bonnie, and grandson, Jim, of Stockton Springs; twin sister, Betty Rae DeFelice of Westland, Mich.; one niece and two nephews, and their families.
A service of celebration of Bob’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Sandy Point Congregational Church. Burial services will be after at Sandy Point Cemetery. Afterward join family and friends for fellowship and refreshments at Sandy Point Community Hall. Memorial donations may be made to Sandy Point Congregational Church Community Outreach Fund, P.O.
