DURHAM, Maine — An infant was injured while riding on an all-terrain vehicle with her grandmother on Friday afternoon.

Maine Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald said a 1-year-old girl was riding on an ATV in a car seat on Celestial Farm about 3 p.m. Friday. The vehicle was operated by the girl’s grandmother, who owns the farm and was feeding horses.

The infant began playing with a strap, which wrapped around the baby’s neck and caught under the rear tire of the John Deere Gator, causing injury to the child, MacDonald said.

She was brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries not considered life-threatening, said MacDonald.

Game Warden Evan Franklin is leading the investigation into the incident. Sgt. Tim Spahr and Warden Rick LaFlamme are assisting.

“The incident remains under investigation by [the] Maine Warden Service and no further information is being released at this time,” said MacDonald.

Durham Fire and Rescue and Freeport Fire and Rescue paramedics assisted at the scene.
