Knox County holding drug take back Sept. 29

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and other local agencies will hold drug take back events later this month.

The effort is part of a regular statewide effort to have people drop off unused prescription medications to sites at various locations.

The sheriff’s office will operate drug take back sites 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Warren Fire Station, the Union Fire Station, and the Vinalhaven Fire State. Take backs are also scheduled for the same time at the Camden police station, Rockland police station, and Lowe’s in Thomaston. The local police departments and Rockland District Nursing Association also are involved in the effort.

The take backs are important, according to law enforcement, because they eliminate drugs that could be targeted for theft. There is also an environmental benefit with drugs being disposed of properly.
