STRONG, Maine — A local man was arrested Tuesday after Franklin County deputies responded to a domestic dispute and assault on West Freeman Road.

Detective David St. Laurent, Sgt. Steven Lowell and Deputy Matthew Brann responded to the call at about 2:30 p.m. When deputies arrived they spoke to Joseph Lagasse, 70, of Strong, Lt. Niles Yeaton said Wednesday.

Lagasse was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault, he said.

The victim was reported to have no injuries but was having trouble breathing at the scene, he said.

Deputies also confiscated three marijuana plants about 5 feet tall from a garden on the property, Yeaton said.

Lagasse was released Tuesday afternoon on $200 cash bail from the Franklin County jail in Farmington, a corrections officer said. He is scheduled to appear Sept. 20 in 12th District Court in Farmington.
