Best news we have heard in years. Houlton is in for a real treat.

    • Anonymous

It sure takes a big person to say something like that! He did a fine job for the town of Millinocket.

      • Anonymous

He did nothing fine. Take a ride on Main Street.

        • Anonymous

Do you have some money the town could use for the downtown area?

          • Anonymous

        • Anonymous

lgreen48   I agree but can we wait until he is gone for sure before we scare Houlton off and we get stuck with him? PLEASE! Now is not the time to do any thing but celebrate, rejoice and count our blessings.

Remember that a Town Manager works for a Town Council and the council sets the tone and pace in any town. A council can either provide an environment for success or create the atmosphere that will hold back the very best administrator. Ask yourself, which type of council has Millinocket had over the last 13 years?

          • JBG

It really is a shame more people would not learn this.  They just need someone to take all the blame and since more often than not the council/selectboard are good ole boys/girls no blame will ever come to them.  Why anyone would choose this as a career I’ll never know.  To say it is a tough job does not do the hard work managers put in justice.

          The facts according to pee-green

      • Anonymous

Yeah he did such a great job he wanted Maine Taxpayers continue to subsidize the town by helping paying his town’s bills for them.  Thankfully people are starting to see the light in Millinocket and in the rest of Maine that this guy is a socialist and wants handouts.   Instead of creating a real economic vision for his town to get it out of the mess it’s in.

        • Anonymous

          What bills? please explain…

“Thankfully people are starting to see the light in Millinocket” Did the people in Millinocket vote him out??

“this guy is a socialist and wants handouts.” What handouts??

“Instead of creating a real economic vision for his town to get it out of the mess it’s in.” Please help with the economic vision.

        • Anonymous

Quick, without googling it…define socialist. Betcha can’t, big buzz word tossed around lately that most that use it can’t even define.

        • Anonymous

Sounds like you must be one of the Quimby bottom-feeders that isn’t from the area, and has no clue about the work Gene has done.

Unknown to many, Gene actually convinced many locals that the venom in the press and other unfriendly business activities must stop—- well, so much for that…!

        • Anonymous

It’s a day later and I’m still waiting for your “personal” definition of the word socialist, brainiac.

    • JBG

He has been in Millinocket for 13 years, he must have been doing something right.  I bet you’d make a fine town manager lgreen48, you should send in your resume.  It’s an easy as pie job!  Best of luck to you Mr. Conlogue.

      • Anonymous

Not one thing has he done right. The town is a mess!!!

        • Anonymous

I completely agree with you. The manager and the town council have ignored the down town business district for years. They dictate instead of govern. They threaten to take funds from the Chamber if they don’t stay in lock step with their views. They limited the business community to 3 minutes on a  important meeting while they railed on for as long as they wanted and not giving a dam about  the business community. The manager and the councils attitude is we know whats best for you.

          • Anonymous

Drive around the State. Downtown areas are “dead” everywhere in towns that can support  a mall.

    • Anonymous

lgreen48, for someone who doesn’t even live in Millinocket, you sure have a lot to say. Yes, you own a business here, but did you ever stop to think the failing of your business might have something to do with all the rude and hateful comments you regularly post about the town or the way in which it is run? I don’t see any of the hotels or convenience stores in the area-NOT just Millinocket- doing a booming business. You want to blame the town, town officials and those of us against the national park for your lack of success. Perhaps you should look in the mirror-or better yet- seek professional help for your anger and hate issues. I don’t believe I have EVER seen you post a comment that wasn’t laced with hate, rudeness or finger pointing at others. God bless you, you really need help.
Gene, many of us here will certainly miss you. You have done a great job and Houlton is lucky to be getting your expertise and you. Thank you for all the good you have done for Millinocket and best wishes to you.

  • Anonymous

He has worked through some pretty tough times in the last 13 years.

    • Anonymous

They were of his own making,

      • Anonymous

Hey lgreen, did you know the paper mill shut down??? please tell us in detail what you would have done differently.

        • Anonymous

Larry lives out of town now !!

        • Anonymous

The mill has been shut down for many years and it will never reopen. He was so focused on Roxanne Quimby’s land that he failed miserably to attract new jobs. He was and its a puppet of the town council.

          • Anonymous

that is what he is suppose to be. he is suppose to do what the council directs him to do. believe, millinocket could have done much worse than gene. i live out of town but have property in millinocket and whenever i had an issue, his door was open and i always got the help i needed. that was the same way with any dept head i dealt with. sometimes we had to compromise, but he was always fair. it was not his fault the mills shut down, he did the best he could without raising taxes. that says alot right there. i guess if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything my mother taught me.

          • Anonymous

You really need to put down the bong before you post

  • Anonymous

Yay!!!  Shoot off next years fireworks TODAY!!!!

  • Anonymous

Just like Schettino on the Costa Concordia…Eugene…abandoning a sinking ship.  Who didn’t see that coming?

    • Anonymous

      Yes it is unfortunately.

    • Anonymous

Gene is being “forced out” but then again, you already knew that— didn’t you…!

We now know who, and many say that they “will” take that to the next election

  • Anonymous

Hopefully now we can hire someone with vision and a positive outlook! Happy days are here again…

    • Anonymous

I could drink to that. We need a selectmen type of government. We can’t afford any more stuff shirts.

    • Anonymous

“Happy days are here again”? Are they? Do you know who the next town manager will be? Good luck!!

      • Anonymous

No I don’t know who the next town manager will be but hopefully he/she will be a person of vision who will not come with personal agenda.  Hopefully this next person will focus upon our town, our issues, our needs, our taxes, our roads, our businesses, our economic development instead of paying good money to tear down a building on main street in a “cut your nose off to spite your face type of act”.  ANYONE will be better than that looooooooooooooooooooooser!

        • Anonymous

Just as long as he or she is not some mindless Quimby drone like Bubba…!

  • Anonymous

The priorities shifted away from what the councilors felt we needed to do and they need to shift back that way…..why on earth would the priorities shift if the town manager WORKED FOR THE TOWN COUNCIL?   who’s wearing the pants in the family?

  • Anonymous

Hey I hear crazy Harold taken the job

  • Anonymous

I think we also need to spend more money on the airport too w.t.h

  • Anonymous

Wouldn’t it be nice if the Town Manager, Police Chief, Fire Chief and Superintendent of Schools actually PAID TAXES to the Town of Millinocket?!?!  Town Manger paid RENT in town, Police Chief lives at Ambejejus Lake, Fire Chief ??? presently, and not to pass judgement (h0pefully)  and Superitendent ??…..

    • wishyouknew2

your superintendent rents in East unless he has moved recently.

    • Anonymous

Yes they get a fat paycheck from us. They are too good to live in Millinocket and contribute to our tax rolls.

      • Anonymous

You call what the Police Chief earns” a fat paycheck”? Compared to other towns of comparable size, he’s at the bottom of the list and has been for some time. Lucky he’s still there. You don’t know what your talking about.

      • Anonymous

Fat paychecks- put down the bong before you post

    • Anonymous

Non issue.  Find something substansive to complain about.

  • ddog

“five straight years of tax decreases” and “improved efficiencies” translates into cutting services and the manpower and equipment needed  to do the basic jobs around town.

  • Anonymous

Hopefully your council is true to their word with retiree’s unlike ours.

  • Anonymous

Does this mean, we again have Dean?!?!

    • Anonymous

Dean, never left, check the warrants. Just that we pay more lawyers than we use too. Two pending lawsuits, so far.

  • wishyouknew2

    WOW! Seriously?

  • Anonymous

If a potential manager is reading these comments, and has kept up with
what is going on in town, there is no way that they would apply for the
    job of Millinocket’s Town Manger

    • Anonymous

Not if they have to put up with Quimby’s minions-
The good thing is that the “Majority” do not endorse Quimby… :-P

    • JBG

Related to a a T.M. that is looking to transition.  I am telling that person to not even consider this town.  So you’re onto something there.

    • Anonymous

Please tell us what is going in town????

      • Anonymous

read the paper like I do and you would know….

        • Anonymous

jcarrme, I live there, I read the papers and I see the town meeting on TV. Now you please tell us what is going on in town… you made the comment now put up or shut up!!!

  • Anonymous

like a rat jumping from a sinking ship!

    • Anonymous

Unlike McLean, Polstein & the rest of the MAGIC toilet scum, Gene actually did good for the area…!

      • Anonymous

Put down that bong. Twelve jobs at tractor supply and 25 jobs at the site of what was Great Northern Paper. This is called economic development.

        • Anonymous

A lot better than what you have ever done, or your buddies:
          *Polstein
          *McLean
          *Michaud
          *Baldacci
          **Bubba

          • Anonymous

keep drinking the tea. It seems to suit you well. Bye the way if it wasn’t for Matt, Bruce and the people that moved here and had the courage to open a business. your town would be a ghost town. Gene had completely ignored the down town for years.

          • Anonymous

You better gets your facts straight, to begin with-
*Bruce- I saved the free world from the Russians, came from Millinocket, and only after he scammed the town and walked away did he open a Sub-Shop
*Matt- He is Quimby’s corrupt skeawzy cheat,,, most know “NOT” to take a check from him

These two idiots almost made Millinocket into a ghost town-

  • Anonymous

I’ve known Eugene since child hood. He has always been a friend very honest and hard working. I couldn’t believe that he would have subjected himself to the infighting that Millinocket has always been known for. I think it comes down to hardworking independent people working and living with an equil amount of union and intitled minded groups. If the intitled minded group would go to work maybe Millinocket would still have and maybe get new industry. How many companies have tried to make a go of it but had to fight with the labor. Times change everywhere except in Millinocket.

  • Anonymous

This is great news for us and bad news for Houlton. Good Luck Houlton! This guy is a trip.

    • Anonymous

Maybe yo should go in his place, seeing is that you have done nothing but complain…. :-P

      • Anonymous

The man has a foul mouth, big mouth, never happy and is so political. By the way, I don’t see you doing anything.

        • Anonymous

Like I said, maybe “you” should go…!

Gene may be going, but his ousting by mindless Quimby followers is creating a backlash that is going to get real interesting real soon….!

Quimby may think she has won a battle, but its being viewed as just another one of her dirty tricks.

The majority of people like Gene, and dont like Quimby, care to guess how this is going to be viewed.

          • Anonymous

I will not support Quimby and her nutty followers. I just didn’t like Gene because of his bad mouth. If Quimby thinks by Gene’s move it will give her the opening she needs, she’s wrong!, I’m sure your new town manager will deal very nicely with Quimby. Quimby will not get a park developed in Maine! Everyone knows she is a nut case!

    Gene,
I am both shocked and deeply saddened about the news of your decision to leave us.
Your years of dedication, solid commitment to the Town of Millinocket and your invaluable role in the ongoing war in the North Woods can never be properly repaid. The hard fact is that without your presence at the helm, the Town of Millinocket is left in the hands of people named Bubba, that answer to a cold heartless millionaire named Quimby.

Most are unaware of the unprofessional and sickening behavior on the part of some liberal fanatics that have had it in for you for some time, and that these same ethically stunted drones have your replacement already in mind.

While we seem to have lost a fair and balanced leader, this loss is gaining support for the work you had once championed against this national park scam.

We will miss you, but if this move is what you want, then good luck and God bless.

  • Anonymous

Wow, now when the town sends out RFP’s all that respond will truely be considered.

  • Anonymous

Any intelligent person would know that any candidate will be compelled to have the existing extended education, and credentials to even be seriously considered.

  • Anonymous

I said it before Town Manager positions the way to go.  $80,000.00 for town manager in Millinocket !!!! Holy —- Nice pay.

    • Anonymous

How much do you think Media Mike Michaud is soaking tax payers for, versus the non-existnt efforts towards economic development.
Give you a hint,,, he just rated ZERO as far as small business assistance..!

Gene has done a lot more economic development for the area, even on his personal time, than any of Quimby’s followers…!

You want to start to trim budgets, then start with that empty suit in the Oval Office, and then to each Senator & Congressman and reduce their pay to “never more” than 1.5 times the medium income of their district…. :-P

  • Anonymous

Someone needs to tell Peter Baldacci that the East Millinocket paper mill has been back up and running, and that the Millinocket mill will soon be producing new wood products. Uneducated statements like Peter Baldacci’s also neglect to say that a Quimby Land will force them to shut down.

  • Anonymous

hopefully he will leave emdc’s board so they can get someone in there who will actually take a hard look at whats going on there…and be man enough to do something about it…that place is nutz…

    • Anonymous

That Board should be ashamed of what has gone on there (and for doing nothing about it)

    • Anonymous

EMDC “is” nutz, but EMDC without Gene is corrupt…!

      • Anonymous

Agreed! I guess I meant get a chair (and board) that takes the time and dares to do what’s right!

    • Anonymous

Please tell us what is going on there?????
