OWLS HEAD, Maine — A 76-year-old woman from Florida was injured Tuesday night when she lost control of her car and it went airborne and landed on its roof.

Elaine C. Tobler was driving south on Route 73 at about 8 p.m when, by the intersection of Knowlton Avenue, her vehicle left the road on the right-hand side. The car went into a ditch, struck a culvert, went airborne, flew over a driveway, struck a tree, and landed on its roof.

Tobler was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland emergency medical staff.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash. The investigating officer spoke with Tobler at the hospital.

No cause of the crash was yet available.

The condition of the patient was not immediately known. A hospital spokeswoman Wednesday morning said Tobler was not a patient at the hospital.

The 2009 Toyota was a total loss, according to the sheriff’s department accident report.
