BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 26-year-old Brunswick man was charged with Class A robbery today in connection with a Nov. 11, 2011, incident at the GameStop store at Merrymeeting Plaza.
Janra Rodriguez Baltazar, 26, of 12 C St., Brunswick, was arrested at 12 p.m. Tuesday on Old Bath Road during a routine traffic stop, Brunswick Police Detective Sgt. Martin Rinaldi said.
At approximately 1 a.m. on Nov. 11, as GameStop was closing after a video game release party, the manager of the Brunswick store reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male, police said at the time.
Detectives declined to give details in November other than to say the suspect pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at the manager, demanded cash and fled on foot.
Rinaldi said today that the man allegedly pointed the firearm at the manager, escorted him back into the store and stole more than $2,000 from the safe and cash drop.
Police do not believe Baltazar acted alone, and do not think he held the gun, although Rinaldi said “he is believed to be directly involved in the crime.”
During the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at Baltazar’s C St. home and collected “supporting evidence,” according to Rinaldi, although he declined to say whether that evidence included a firearm.
Baltazar was taken to Cumberland County Jail Tuesday afternoon, where he was held on $5,000 cash bail.
He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 20.
