WATERVILLE, Maine — A local man is facing burglary and assault charges after kicking down a neighbor’s door early Saturday morning and assaulting him and his roommate, according to police.
The incident involving Frankie Iraola, 34, started around 2 a.m. at an apartment building on Western Avenue, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.
When police arrived, two upstairs tenants in the building reported that Iraola had kicked their door in and assaulted both men, in addition to breaking the windows out of a vehicle parked in the driveway, Rumsey said.
Iraola “believed that they were responsible for stealing cash from his apartment,” Rumsey said.
Although one of the tenants didn’t want to press charges, the other one did, Rumsey said. One of the tenants had red marks on his face, Rumsey said, but was otherwise not injured.
Iraola had fled the scene, but police were able to track him down on Sunday and charge him with burglary and assault, Rumsey said. Iraola was not arrested, but he faces up to 10 years in prison for the Class B burglary charge and an additional year for assault.
Iraola is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court on Oct. 11.
