Helen M. Leavitt

NEWPORT – Helen M. Leavitt, 81, died Sept. 2, 2012, at her residence. She was born Feb. 10, 1931, the daughter of Dennis and Ruth (Johnston) Bishop.

She graduated from Skowhegan High School, class of 1949. She had been employed as a waitress at Myrtle Hall’s restaurant and Gallison’s, both in Corinna. Helen also worked on potato harvesters for Charlie Perkins and Roland Buck, and volunteered many years for the Sebasticook Valley Community Center, Newport.

She is survived by three daughters, Christine and Lorraine Leavitt, both of Dexter, and Elaine Leavitt of Newport; two stepsons and their wives, Robert and Glenice Leavitt of Garland and Richard and Linda Leavitt of Ripley; nine grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Michael, Brian, Robert Jr., Stephen, Melissa, Amy and Christopher; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Leavitt.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Due to a family medical appointment, funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the funeral home with the Rev. Will Walters officiating. Burial will be at Exeter Center Cemetery.
