Marion W. (Kneeland) Hawes Dakin

STOCKTON SPRINGS – Marion W. (Kneeland) Hawes Dakin, 92, passed away peacefully Aug. 29, 2012, with family by her side in the hospice unit at Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast. She was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Pittsfield, to Percy and Eva (Fayle) Kneeland.

She graduated from Stockton Springs High School in 1938. She married Pearl Hawes, in 1941, and lived all of her life in Stockton Springs. She worked many jobs and raided four children. She enjoyed playing board games, knitting mittens and afghans for her grandchildren, she also enjoyed her once a week coffee time with her friends. She married Arthur Dakin, in 1970 after the death of her husband.

She is survived by her four children, Linda Dakin of Stockton Springs, Carolyn Hawes of Greenville and Florida, Lawrence Hawes and wife, Joan, of Bucksport, and Harold Hawes and wife, Lois, of Belfast; eight grandchildren, Roxanne Adams of Bucksport, Lesley Small of Bucksport, Janelle Morley of York, Gina Corbin of Caribou, James Mogan of Waterboro, Shelby Sivernails of Lake Forest, Ill., Michael Hawes of Bucksport and James Hawes of Middletown, Conn.; 10 great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Brittany, Chelsea, Jennifer, Koster, Spencer, Allysa, Abbie, Andy and Archer; and one great-great-granddaughter, Arya Patel. Marion is also survived by a twin sister, Alice Harrison of Wallingford, Conn.; one brother, Charles Kneeland and wife, Sheila, of Stockton Springs; one sister-in-law, Jean Truitt of Winterport; as well as many stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husbands, Pearl Hawes and Arthur Dakin; one brother, Charles Kneeland; one son-in-law, Albert Dakin; and two stepsons. Special thanks to her close friends; Sheila, Jean, Louise and Laurie; and her caregivers, Donna Orcutt, Rosemary LaBlanc and Kathy Warner.

A graveside service will be held noon Saturday Sept. 8, at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Church Street, Stockton Springs. Memorial contributions in Marion’s memory may be made to Waldo County General Hospital Hospice Unit, 118 Northport Ave., Belfast, ME 04915; or Townline Animal Shelter, 46 Baker Road, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
