AUGUSTA, Maine — In accordance with a presidential proclamation, the U.S. flag and the state of Maine flag will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday to honor the passing of astronaut Neil Armstrong.
“Neil Armstrong was a hero and a symbol of American ingenuity and perseverance. He and everyone involved in the Apollo 11 mission showed that this great nation can accomplish any task it seeks when we work together, and forever solidified America’s place in history. We all mourn the loss of this American icon,” said Gov. Paul LePage.
President Barack Obama signed a proclamation on Aug. 27 as a mark of respect for the memory of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.
Armstrong passed away last week at the age of 82 after complications from cardiovascular procedures.
