Rockport tax rate holds steady

By Tom Groening, BDN Staff

ROCKPORT, Maine — Town Assessor Kerry Leichtmann reports that the 2012 property tax rate will remain at the 2011 level of $12.21, or $1,220 per $100,000 in property value.

The steady mill rate, Leichtmann reported, is the result of the town keeping its budget flat. Budgets for Knox County, SAD 28 and the Five Town Community School District also have been kept steady.

Property tax bills are expected to be mailed the first week of September. A single bill will be sent, but taxpayers have the option of making payments in two installments. The first payment is due Oct. 15 and the second payment is due April 15. A 7 percent interest rate is applied to taxes paid late.
