Berwick man arrested for 9th time since March held on cash-only bond

BERWICK, Maine — A local man arrested nine times since March was ordered held on $10,000 cash-only bail after his latest arrest Monday.

Howard Heidenstrom, 69, of 364 Pine Hill Road appeared in York District Court on Wednesday where he was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail for violation of conditions of release and refusal to submit.

Heidenstrom has a lengthy criminal record dating to March 25 when he was arrested for terrorizing, disorderly conduct and refusal to sign a criminal summons.

Since March he has been arrested an additional eight times on a variety of charges.

His charges, according to Capt. Jerry Locke of the Berwick Police Department, range from disorderly conduct, terrorizing, violation of conditions of release and violation of a protective order, among others.

Heidenstrom was charged with violating conditions of release on on Aug. 25; refusing to submit to arrest or detention, disorderly conduct, violating conditions of release and violation of protective order on July 12; violation of protection order, violating conditions of release, terrorizing and disorderly conduct on July 8; allowing dog to be at large on June 24; violation of protection order and violating conditions of release on June 7; warrant arrest on May 20; violating conditions of release and terrorizing on May 13; and terrorizing, disorderly conduct and refusing to sign criminal summons on March 25.

Heidenstrom’s was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, where he was expected to attend a pretrial conference in Superior Court in relation to his first felony charge — the terrorism charge from March.

A Springvale District Court judge said a trial for Heidenstrom is scheduled for Sept. 18, at which point he is expected to face charges stemming from prior arrests.
