Fire officials investigating blaze at vacant house in Saco

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SACO, Maine — Authorities are investigating what caused a fire at a vacant house on Washington Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Saco Deputy Fire Chief Robert Martin said Saco police are investigating the blaze, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Crews were able to knock down the blaze in about 15 minutes, Martin said.

“Fire and smoke were showing when we got there on the first and second floors,” Martin said.

Even though the damage to the house was classified as minimal, the structure had multiple problems, Martin said, and will likely be a total loss.

Officials have yet to locate the owner of the building, according to Martin. He declined to say where the fire started or if it was suspicious.

“Right now we’re not willing to say anything,” he said.
