AUGUSTA — Rachel’s Run and Kids’ Fun, 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. The family event will begin with a 5K run or walk along the Kennebec River Rail Trail from Capitol Park in Augusta to Hallowell and back. It will include children’s activities and a stroller brigade. Registration is $15 until Friday, Aug. 31, $20 the day of the event. Proceeds will be used to reduce toxic pollution in Maine. BANGOR — Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Bangor Elks Club, 108 Odlin Road. The cost of the dinner is $7, $5 seniors and children 12 to 18, $3 children under 12. The event is sponsored by the Westgate Manor Walk to End Alzheimer’s Team. CASTINE — The Penobscot Navy League Council, in partnership with Maine Maritime Academy, will conduct sunset cruises on Penobscot Bay aboard the historic schooner Bowdoin at 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18, departing from the Castine Town Dock. Passengers are asked to be at the dock by 3:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for students in the Naval ROTC program at Maine Maritime Academy and the University of Maine, and to recognize outstanding merchant marine graduates from MMA. Funds also are used to recognize the Northern New England Coast Guard Sailor of the Year and to support two Naval Sea Cadet units in Bangor and Madison. PORT CLYDE — The Georges River Land Trust will sponsor a guided kayak trip, 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, from Port Clyde Kayaks. Rain date is 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.
