STORRS, Conn. — The University of Connecticut Huskies scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over the University of Maine Black Bears on Sunday.
Connecticut took a 1-0 lead at 20:52 when Samantha Mcguire found the back of the net off the Danielle Schulmann assist. The Huskies built to the lead at the 37:57 mark off the foot of Andrea Plucenik on an assist from Stephanie Ribeiro. The Huskies scored the final goal of the game at 55:51 with an unassisted goal by Ribeiro.
The Huskies (2-1) outshot the Black Bears (1-2) 22-8, with Maine’s Lauren Swant making eight saves and UConn’s Allison Saucier making one.
Jordan Pellerin and Nikki Misener each had two shots for Maine.
The Black Bears return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday against South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C.
