Great Story! I love seeing young people get involved in the teaching/coaching.  It looks like Coach Hackett has found two really good ones.  Good luck to all.

Of course…these two young studs (males of course) got hired FIRST to teach, THEN to coach.  Yeah, tell me another one.  I know a great teacher, 20 yrs. experience, sports’ background, has taught all subjects in middle school, BUT, looks like the Good Old Boys’ Club prevailed again!  Kudos to the continuing ‘that’s-the-way-it-is’ system in Bangor…and most other places I would assume.

    • There is nothing more annoying than people who think they know it all, yet don’t have the whole story.  1st year teacher salary at BHS = $34,235.  20th year salary at BHS with Master’s (I’m assuming your friend has one after 20 years because he/she is so special) = $64,120.  So if you’re the building principal, who do you hire in this tough economic era? Also, did you miss the part where he did his student teaching at Bangor?  You don’t think that would give him some sort of advantage in the hiring process?  New teachers don’t deserve to be hired?  Everyone has to start somewhere.

Well, Bangor School District doesn’t hire brand new teachers that often. It is very tough for a teacher with 3 or 4 years experience to get into the Bangor School system. It does make you wonder. However Coach Hackett is an upstanding person and a great coach, and I do not believe that he would try to get these guys a job just so they could coach.
