LIMESTONE and HAVELOCK, N.C. – Vada Hope Foster, 92, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Aug. 20, 2012, at the home of her son, Stephen. She was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Caribou, to Olaf and Etta Hanson.

Her mother died at an early age and she was raised by her father with the help of her extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Throughout her life she shared many stories of her childhood in the Caribou and New Sweden communities with her children. She truly loved her Swedish ancestry and stayed close to her extended family. She attended Aroostook State Normal School and for many years was a teacher and later a substitute teacher in the Caswell, Limestone and Loring Air Force Base schools. Vada married Roger Foster, in June 1939, and they raised their family on their Foster Avenue farm in Limestone where she and Roger were members of Limestone United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Her proudest accomplishments were her four sons and daughter, and she was a steadfast supporter of all they did. She loved living and working on the family farm and all that farm life demanded. Stories of treasured childhood memories, raising her children, and teaching the children of local schools will forever be reminders of her timeless influence. This zest for life continued as she and Roger left the family farm for Bucksport where they spent the later part of their lives enjoying the company of friends and traveling to visit their children.

Vada was predeceased by husband, Roger; and brother, Arnold Hanson. She is survived by four sons, Stephen and wife, Theresa, of Havelock, N.C., Jon and wife, Diane, of Colleyville, Texas, Randall and wife, Patricia, of Hudson, N.C., and Peter and wife, Vicki, of Farmington; one daughter, Carolyn Boyd and partner, Diane, of Magnolia, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael, Dean, Dana, Phillip, Kristen and Jared Foster, and Joshua Boyd; and great-grandchildren, Audra, Bailey, Nolan, Vada, Colton and Kaylin Foster, and Coleman and Foster Boyd.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Limestone United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests after the service. Vada will be interred at Advent Cemetery, Limestone, in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Limestone United Methodist Church, 2 Burleigh Ave., Limestone, ME 04750; Robert A. Frost Memorial Library, 42 Main St., Limestone, ME 04750; or the humane society of your choice.
