FRYEBURG, Maine — A 22-year-old man was indicted Friday on charges of unlawful sexual contact and possessing child pornography.

Luke Edmunds, who has no legal address, was living in Fryeburg with a family member when police traced an Internet address sharing child pornography on file-sharing networks, according to an affidavit by Maine State Police investigator Frank Stepnick. Police subpoenaed Fairpoint Communications and found the Internet account was registered to Edmunds’ grandfather.

The man told police he didn’t know how to use a computer, but that his grandson, Edmunds, was always on the computer. At first, Edmunds claimed someone had sent him those files, but eventually admitted to downloading them. Police confiscated his computer to scan for forensic evidence.

During the investigation, according to Stepnick’s report, he later was told that Edmunds may have sexually touched two infant girls. Edmunds was charged with class A unlawful sexual contact, punishable by up to 30 years, class B unlawful sexual contact, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years, and class C possession of sexually explicit materials, which carries up to a five-year sentence.

Edmunds’ arraignment is set for Sept. 5 in Oxford County Superior Court.
