Xerox adds up to 55 jobs in Lewiston one month after laying off 70

By Sun Journal

LEWISTON, Maine — Xerox announced Monday it is hiring up to 55 new full-time workers for its call center here, one month after laying off 70.

Xerox purchased the former Affiliated Computer Services in 2009 and earlier this year began phasing out the ACS name.

The recent layoffs were initially announced in May. A spokeswoman said she was aware of rumors that the facility had closed locally, but said that wasn’t the case.

The new positions will be for customer care representatives. Hiring has started and will continue through Sept. 7, according to a press release from Xerox.

The company employs 350 people in Maine, 250 of them in Lewiston.
