WATERVILLE, Maine — Four people were arrested, including one man for drug possession, during drunken driving enforcement on Kennedy Memorial Drive on Friday night and into early Saturday morning, according to officials.

Parnapon Saungfuwan, 19, of Fairfield is known to police in central Maine, according to Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey. Saungfuwan was arrested in May for three counts of aggravated trafficking in cocaine.

When Saungfuwan pulled into the roadblock late Friday night, police smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle, Rumsey said.

Saungfuwan was searched, and when police felt he had a plastic baggie concealed in his pants the suspect fled the scene, police said.

Police captured Saungfuwan and, when it was discovered the baggie contained marijuana, placed him under arrest, Rumsey said. He was charged with refusing to submit to arrest, violation of conditions of release and possession of marijuana.

Rumsey said Saungfuwan’s bail conditions from the previous cocaine charges prohibited him from possessing drugs.

He was booked into the Waterville police station and released on bail.
