MICHAEL R. EZZY

VAN BUREN – Michael R. Ezzy, 76, died Aug. 10, 2012, at a Van Buren health care facility. He was born July 18, 1936, in Van Buren, the fifth of eight children of Anthony and Germaine (Azzie) Ezzy.

Mike was a 1954 graduate of Van Buren Boys High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. After his tour of duty, he returned to Van Buren where he began to manage Ezzy’s Music Shop, a family business his father had established. Mike took over the ownership of Ezzy’s Music Shop in 1960, and he and his wife, Patricia, operated in both the U.S. and Canada for 51 years until their retirement in 2011. He was a devoted husband, as well as a responsible and cheerful dad to his four children and eight grandchildren. Mike also shared his talents through leadership and participation in many civic, business and religious activities. He served on the inaugural board of directors of Gateway Federal Credit Union, Van Buren, and a member of Van Buren Chamber of Commerce and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1635. Mike shared his musical talents through St. Bruno Choir Society, numerous religious Cursillo weekends and many local performances.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia (Theriault) Ezzy of Van Buren; two sons, Richard Ezzy and wife, Kim, of Caribou, and Jonathan Ezzy of North Hollywood, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Jordan and husband, Tim, of Eugene, Ore., and Carolyn Ezzy of Portland; two brothers, George Ezzy and Peter Ezzy, both of Augusta; four sisters, Antonia Davis of Altadena, Calif., Cecile Sparhuber of Stony Brook, N.Y., Betty Fitzgerald of Portsmouth, N.H., and Thekla Quine of Bangor; and eight grandchildren, Devon, Madeleine, Matthew and Julia Jordan, Louisa, Samuel, Benjamin and Alexander Ezzy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Gabriel Ezzy.

Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday with his brother-in-law, the Rev. Rino Theriault, as main celebrant. Committal service with military honors will be after at the parish cemetery.
