APPLETON, Maine — Two people have been charged with theft after police said they took a box in which donations were being collected for a man who suffered a serious injury two months ago.

Andrew Blauvelt, 22, of Washington and Amanda Rolerson, 29, of Appleton were issued summonses for theft, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

The theft occurred at the West Appleton Country Club on July 28 but was not reported to the sheriff’s office until Tuesday, Aug. 7, he said. Carroll said he does not know why it took so long to report the theft.

The theft occurred the evening after a benefit was held for Steve Grierson of Cushing, who broke his back in an accident on June 2, the chief deputy said.

Within 24 hours of the theft being reported, the sheriff’s office had charged Blauvelt and Rolerson, Carroll said.

The money has not been recovered. How much money was stolen has not yet been determined, he said.

The suspects were in attendance at the benefit, the chief deputy said.
