Earl L. Tash Sr.

MILLINOCKET – Earl L. Tash Sr., 91, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his home, after being cared for by his loving family throughout his illness. He was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Chester, the son of Preston F. and Ida M. (Wyman) Tash.

Earl grew up on the family farm in Chester. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war Earl began a career at the Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, where he retired in 1984 with 29 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and especially enjoyed four-wheeling well into his 80′s. Earl loved spending time with his family, who cared for him very deeply.

Earl is survived by three children, Earl L. Tash Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Gray, Shirley Daigle and her husband, Jerry, of Millinocket and Doreen Hayes and her husband, George, of Exeter; four grandchildren, Kelly Crompton and her husband, Mike, Jenny Daigle and her boyfriend, Darrin Daniels, Amanda Hayes, and George Hayes Jr.; two stepgrandchildren, Stanley and Wade Mason; a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Crompton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Earl was predeceased by his wife, Mae E. Kelly; a grandson, Gerard “J.J.” Daigle; and two sisters, Cora Carter and Doriene E. Decker. The family extends a special thank you to Community Health and Counseling Services of Lincoln for all their help, as well as Dr. Ed Dunstan for all his home visits.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Graveside services with military honors will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Earl may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
