WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville man who had been awaiting trial on theft charges is facing more after stealing a pair of sneakers from a sporting goods store, police said.

Robert Bishop, 32, was arrested Monday after he went into Olympia Sports and took a pair of white Puma sneakers, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.

Store staff had called police after Bishop had taken the sneakers, Rumsey said, and the suspect was easy to locate, as he was walking on Armory Road wearing the sneakers.

Bishop was arrested, booked into the Waterville police station on the theft charge and released on $1,000 bail, Rumsey said.

Bishop had been awaiting trial on charges of trafficking in prison contraband in April and theft on July 26.
